The best summer romper

May 30, 2018

Romper: Zara (I'm wearing a size XS), Heels: Zara (I'm wearing a size 6), Bag: Zara (I couldn't find it online), Sunnies: Ray Ban

Happy Wednesday, everyone! We made it halfway through the week. I hope you're all having a wonderful week so far. Personally, I can't wait until this weekend. Tom and I are heading to Philly for the weekend, we're seeing one of our favorite musicians and we're meeting up with some of my college friends. We actually have a pretty busy June but I'm so excited -- the summer is officially here! We're even going to the Firefly Music Festival in Delaware and I think this cute romper is perfect for a whimsical and colorful event like a music festival. I'll probably wear it with flat sandals because I'll be walking a lot. This romper screamed summer and it's under $50! These heels are also so fun and remind me of a pair my grandma had many years ago so I couldn't help but purchase them too. Nostalgic purchases are fair game, right?

Speaking of being a busy bee, I've been implementing a new quick habit into my daily routine. I discovered this habit after reading The Happiness Project by Gretchen Rubin and it's so simple that I'm amazed at how much it's helped me. Clearly I've been on a self-help kick lately, especially reading self-help books (I'll be sharing more about that on Friday!) but this little tip has helped tremendously. I'm a procrastinator of the truest form. In college I'd put off writing a paper for weeks and would stay up at late as I could the night before to write it, but I was NOTORIOUS for waking up like 2-3 hours early in the morning before the class to finish it. Nothing like the last minute, huh? How I survived those years was purely a miracle, but anyway, Gretchen's one minute rule has helped me not be as bad of a procrastinator. The one minute rule is simple, you must complete every task that should take you under a minute to complete. Sounds easy, right? And it is! I find that it has helped me be more organized too! Like I'm horrible with putting my credit card back into the slot in my wallet, I know it's so dumb BUT I remind myself of the one minute rule and voila! everything is back to where it's supposed to be.

Let me know if you've tried the one minute rule or if there are any habits/rules you follow to help life be a little easier!

Getting a Custom Dress Made

May 22, 2018

Happy Tuesday, everyone! Last year I took a long hiatus from the blog; to be honest my heart just wasn't in it anymore - or so I thought! I was in a creative rut and had problems trying to create content to share. Fast forward 1 year and I feel happier about my blog than I have ever felt before. I'll admit there were many times where I felt the need to compare myself to other bloggers and focused on quantity vs. quality. Now I'm less concerned about how many people like my post but more about how you all respond to it. Hopefully, it's in a positive way.

During my long hiatus I got together with 2 lovely ladies and creative friends of mine Sandra and Melissa to collaborate on a project. My friend Sandra is a bridal photographer, known for her ability to capture the most romantic moments ever! and my friend Melissa is a dress designer, who always knows what's best for her clients. Together we thought of using our talents and collaborating on a bridal shoot. I was the model, Melissa the designer and Sandra the photographer. Can I just how cool is it to get a dress custom made?! It's was so much fun observing the process.

Melissa and I met initially to discuss ideas. I shared what I liked, what I didn't like and what didn't usually work for my body. I told her I preferred classic and more conservative silhouette's, she suggested her favorite fabrics and little by little the dress came together. One of the best days was going to Mood, commonly known as the fabric store on Project Runway, and Melissa guided me through the isles of silk and chiffon and explained the pros and cons of each fabric. All I could think of was when I finally get married, what fabric would I want to my dress to be made of?! There rows of different kinds of lace, tulle and satin. I never thought I was a girl that liked bling but then we ended up in this corner with jeweled fabrics and they were just stunning!

After Melissa decided on the fabric, she began making the dress my hand. She measured me multiple times; and after measuring we agreed on what worked with my body and what didn't. We agreed on an A-lined lace dress, a low back and fun straps. From there Melissa worked diligently on the dress; I waited in anticipation for the creation and Sandra began to conceptualize the shoot. Collectively, we agreed on the romantic background of the New York Public Library, and surrounding areas right by Bryant Park.

The results were beautiful! I say this because it was a labor of love on all accounts. I was thrilled to learn the process and was so excited to be apart of this project. From Melissa's amazing work, creating a beautiful bridal gown, Sandra's love for romanticism and feminine photo shoots, and my excitement to share a custom petite sized dress -- it all came out better than we imagined.

Can't wait to go through this process again in the future when I get married!

Summer Cravings: Nordstrom

May 17, 2018

Happy Thursday, everyone! As some of you may know that I moved out of my Brooklyn apartment earlier this year and moved back home. After getting rid of a lot of my stuff, I still had to manage to move the contents of my apartment to my old childhood bedroom. Whatever remained ended up in a storage unit. I went to check out that storage unit a few days ago and realized that it was time I got rid of a bunch of clothes, more specially a lot of my summer clothes. I had been holding on to items that I didn't really wear but kept them for sentimental purposes; clothes that I didn't like or just didn't fit. So after clearing out a lot of what I had I realized that I was down to like 2 dress, 3 tops and a pair of shorts which means I have to do some major summer shopping! Here's what's on my Nordstrom wish list currently:

Let me know what your craving for the summer in the comment section below! Should I share my summer cravings for other stores? I'd love to hear your thoughts!

Florals? For Spring? Groundbreaking.

May 15, 2018

Dress: ASOS, Heels: Steve Madden, Earrings: Bauble Bar (similar here)

Hahaha one of my favorites quotes from my favorite movie! Any guesses? It's from The Devil Wears Prada! The movie came out when I was 15 years old and I was OBSESSED. I wanted so badly to be Andy (Anne Hathaway's character), and I was convinced I'd be working for a fashion magazine one day. Even if it meant I had to withstand the craziness/abuse that Andy was put through I was willing to do that.

Anyway, Happy Wednesday! Sorry, I've been a bit MIA the last few days. Things were hectic and business with my mom's birthday and mother's day. Sorry mama comes first! But I'm happy to be back writing another post. Not sure if it's just me but blogging relaxes me. It gives me such comfort and peace to just write my thoughts and feelings here and share them with you all. So things have been a bit hectic lately and I've been creating list on top of list of things I have to get done before the end of the month and is it just me or is May flying by!? January was 75 years long and now it's already middle of May. I don't understand. Someone just stop time, please! Hahah

I wanted to share this floral maxi today with you all because I just love it so much. I bought it back in February and I'm shocked it's not completely sold out. Maxi dresses can be such a hard find for petites but ASOS has such a great selection of petite items. They are always my go-to when looking for fun and trendy pieces. I found this number for only $60 and can guarantee you I'll be wearing it all the time this summer. When I saw it I just thought "that dress was made for you", I feel like it just screams me! I found some other adorable options for spring/summer and I've linked them below.

What are your plans for the rest of the week and the weekend? I honestly cannot wait until the Royal Wedding! I'll be up bright and early to watch it!

Thanks for reading today's post!

Pushing the Limits

May 9, 2018

Dress: LOFT, Earrings: Bauble Bar (similar here), Wedges: Treasure and Bond c/o Nordstrom, Bag: Target, Sunnies: BP. c/o Nordstrom, Lippie: Huda Beauty c/o Sephora

We made it to Wednesday! Woo hoo! Happy Wednesday, everyone. I hope you're having a great one so far. My goal this week was to stay focus and committed to the things I do this week, whether it be big or small, I think I'm actually doing it. I'm typically a very distracted person and I say this with absolute honestly haha I tend to say yes a lot, to everything and everyone, I pile my plate up with commitments but am not good at prioritizing and getting it all done. My goal this week was to be focused on getting things done and being committed to putting 100% of my efforts into whatever I was doing. I've worked out everyday for the past 4 days and pushed myself in every workout. For me that's huge! Tonight I signed up for a class at Monster Cycle and for those of you who aren't from NYC, it's a spin studio and each class is a rhythm ride so you're riding to the beat of the music. They also project music videos on the wall while you're riding. I like it more because of the music for the most part but it doesn't feel as cheesy at Soulcycle can feel sometimes. I'm a fan of Soulcycle but I love Monster Cycle so much more!! Anyway, Leigh, tonight's instructor just kept telling us if you have a little more in you to keep going, keep going harder. Basically what she meant was if we had the energy to add more weight to our bikes to make the riding heavier. I rarely add weight, I don't really push myself harder than what I'm comfortable with but that little thing she said really resonated with me today. Each time she said it I thought "I can push a little more!" and I did and it felt amazing. I pushed my limits and even if it was just a spinning class, I want to make it my motto. Just push a little more.

Just push a little more...

Just push a little more...

Just push a little more.

And in the honor of pushing the limits, I signed up for another 5k in June! Here's to setting goals and surpassing them!

Thanks so much for reading today's post!

Springtime in the city

May 6, 2018

Hi everyone! We've officially reached my favorite time of year in NYC! We kinda skipped over spring last week and were treated to 90 degree weather. It was so insane. Last Monday it was a cold 50 degrees and by Thursday it was 92! Craziness! Anyway, the spring/summer seasons are my absolute favorite while living in NYC. There's just something about the warm weather that makes the city come even more alive. Tom and I were just talking about how we're so excited for our second summer in the city together. We're already planning to see concerts in Prospect Park, making lists of restaurants to try in Park Slope and waiting to get our pool passes for Sunset Park pool. Can't wait!!

Working in the city can be such an experience but how about adding 90 degree weather outside and then it's -20 degrees inside thanks to the air conditioning going at full blast! I don't know about you but it seems like I have to dress for 2 seasons during the warmer weather. I think this top from Ann Taylor is such a great transitional piece! I have worn it with cream colored dress pants and a pearl necklace for work but paired it with my favorite high-waisted white jeans and wedges for this more casual look.

Also, I'm so obsessed with these wedges! I wore them over the weekend to my friend's dinner celebration and I lasted all night in them. I have flat feet and sometimes wearing high heels and wedges can be super painful but these wedges were amazing. I was able to standing around and even break it down on the dance floor without any discomfort! I know a lot of bloggers have been raving about them but they really are just THAT good!

Anyway, I hope you all have an amazing rest of your week. I'll be continuing the birthday celebrations this week and we'll be celebrating my sweet mama's birthday on Wednesday! Funny story when I was little I used to wish my birthday was in May because I hated that it snowed almost every year on my birthday, which is in February and because my mom's birthday was in May and I always wanted to be just like her.  I just always loved the spring time and thought it was the prettiest time of year! You spring babies are all so lucky! Haha
