Boulevard East Dreams: Ruched Gray Jersey Dress
October 29, 2014
Three cheers for the mercury retrograde being over! Perhaps the mercury retrograde is a fallacy but I no longer feel like I'm in a consistent funk.
Fall is in full effect, I'm obsessing over layers. The more sweaters and jackets, the better. I'm also loving sweater and jersey dresses like the one above. Within the last month I must've have purchased at least 5. They are my go-to piece with tights for the colder days. This jersey dress from Banana Republic is so incredibly comfortable it's insane, I mean of course it's jersey but I'm loving it so much. I love it so much that I had to buy it in black (I tend to buy multiples like that - whoops, sorry not sorry!). I know I say I love all the pieces I write about but really I am way too excited over this dress. On this chilly morning I paired it with chevron patterned black tights from J. Crew factory, a skinny black belt from Zara and my new favorite Chelsea boots from Banana Republic as well. I'm a heels girl, I always have been. Any kind of heel, thin or thick but I'll admit wearing a chunky heel is a lot more comfy.
Of course because it was chilly I had on my quilted jacket from J. Crew and an older scarf from Urban Outfitters. What was my favorite added touch? Obviously my lipstick! I wore Diva by MAC which I know is a common favorite but it really is a beautiful vampy color and so Fall.
Btw, how about this amazing view?! It's NYC right across the river. It was absolutely gorgeous.

Fall Favorites: Banana Republic Seamed Fit-and-Flare Dress
October 21, 2014
As some of you might have noticed I have taken a mini hiatus from the blog. It wasn't done intentionally but I've had a horrible case of writers block and I'd say I've been in a funk for the past week or so. I blame it on the mercury retrograde. My good friend Lynn, told me about the mercury retrograde and how it's affecting all astrological signs and that it's common to feel a bit off during this time but I guess it affecting me more than I thought. So here I am writing this as I'm on my way to work. Yes, I have a real job and I haven't mentioned very much about my personal life here because I considered this a fashion blog but why not throw some random personal things in. Here goes nothing. I'm a small town girl that travels to the big city everyday to work at a law firm. Yes, I'm one of those crazies that still wants to go to law school even though maybe have tried to convince me otherwise. However, you never know... that's the exciting and terrifying part of life you never know where you'll end up with or with whom or doing what.
I digress; Fall is officially upon on us in full throttle here on the east coast and time is flying by as the end of the year approaches. I can't believe it's nearing the end of October and 2014 is almost over. I truly can't believe it but at least I have a couple more weeks to wear some of my fall favorites before I have to pull out my heavy sweaters and L.L. Bean snow boots. Included in my fall favorites is this Banana Republic Seamed fit-and-flare dress that I purchased for only $50! Yay for sales! Unfortunately that sale is over and it's back to it's original price of $120, sorry guys :(. This sophisticated piece reminded me very much of the 1960's.
For those of you who don't know, I'm obsessed with the AMC show Mad Men. Anything from the 1960's, I'm all about it and when Banana Republic has come out with their Mad Men collections I squeal with excitement because I adore the style. In fact, my leopard shoes are from the collection from a few years ago. Anyway, I drew a little bit of inspiration from the show and that era for this outfit because I thought this dress was typical of that time. What drew me to the dress initially was the color "Sour Cherry", which is lighter purple with a maroon undertone and then the silhouette of the dress was amazing. So I obviously need to purchase it and I'm one of those people that once I see something I like, I need it, I'm determined on getting it and I will do whatever it takes to get it and if I don't get it then it haunts me forever. Nothing haunts us more than the things we didn't buy and I believe that wholeheartedly so I caved and bought the dress. The flared silhouette is so elegant and in my honest opinion some fashion trends as of late have not been so...elegant. I amped up the dress (size 2P, also available in black) with my link necklace from bauble bar featured in many previous posts, a new leopard scarf from Kate Spade and my leopard heels from Banana Republic.
This chic dress also looks great with a blazer for a more professional look or the way I wore it for date night :)

As I write this, I'm watching the latest episode of one of my favorite shows, Scandal. I tried not giving in the popular television show but it got me and it sucked me right in. I'm a big fan of the creator, Shonda Rhimes and her highly successful TV shows, Scandal is no different. I love the fact that main character, Olivia Pope has an incredibly intense career as head of her crisis management firm and is someone you don't want to mess with. What I also thoroughly enjoy on the show is Olivia's sense of style. She is known for her classic yet feminine, neutrals outfits which include high-waisted slacks, sophisticated jackets and structured handbags. Her style has become so inspiring, The Limited actually just came out with a Scandal collection and it's absolutely fab.
I'll admit, Olivia Pope's wardrobe is a great inspiration when it comes to my daily work wear. I'd like to describe my style as classic, preppy but trendy and her outfits are a great example of classic, stylish sophistication in the work place. Hopefully one day I'll be able to rock a Ferragamo jacket like her but until then I'll stick to pieces from Loft and Banana Republic - my favs!
This look I put together is truly one of my favorites and was so easy to style. As much as I love dresses and skirts, there's something about a well fitted pair of slacks that stands out to me. Of course I got this Navy pair from BR tailored (they the Martin fit, size 2P and were hemmed about 2 inches) and I kept the rest of the outfit neutral with a red belt from Zara and cream colored blouse from Loft. I especially like the high collar and bow at the top. I thought it added a little retro touch to the look. I topped the look with my leopard heels also from BR (from their older Mad Men collection, 2012 I think?).
