Weekend Wear: A Casual Outing

Here's a quick look at some of my casual favorites that I've been wearing a ton of lately. I know it doesn't look too casual but I try my hardest not to wear leggings/sweatpants all the time!
I was headed out to brunch with a friend and the weather wasn't too cold so I opted for this camel J.Crew Factory blazer over a simple soft cotton American Eagle striped t-shirt. (Have I mentioned how obsessed I am with stripes? I'll have to save that for another post.) My "jeans" are from H&M (2 years ago) and the reason I say "jeans" is because they are like a jegging but not as stretchy but they aren't as stiff as jeans. On my feet are my beloved Banana Republic boots which you can also see (here

What is your go-to brunch outfit? Let me know in the comments below!

Short & Sweet: Snow Day

January 27, 2015

J.Crew Chambray Shirt: here, Banana Republic Jeans: old, Something in Mind hat: similar (and on sale!), MAC Cosmetics Ruby Woo Lipstick: here, Uniqlo Leg Warmers: similar, Hunter Rainboots: here

Who said snow days were only for kids? I disagree. Even though Blizzard Juno did not live up to the weatherman's expectations, it happily provided most of us in the tri-state area with a snow day! What does one do when it snows? Have a photoshoot of course.

I fought the urge to stay in pajamas today.  One of my new year's resolutions was to actually wear the things in my closet and not wait for a certain occasion,  like I tend to do. I bit the bullet and headed outside. Luckily by me in NJ the snow wasn't as bad as predicted but for little gal like myself, a foot of snow is plenty annoying to walk through. I was in a denim mood and knew exactly how to wear this J.Crew chambray in the winter. (See here for how I wore it in the summer). Denim on denim is one of my go-to's and I used to be afraid of trying it because I didn't want to look like Britney and Justin circa 2001 at the American Music Awards.  They also say you lose most of your heat through the top of your head so I had to stay warm in this funky hat.

Hope you're all staying warm in this wintry weather!

Winter Red

January 19, 2015

Okay so I own a lot of red items. Way more than I thought I did but I must admit the color red just seems fun and bold and lively to me, so I will continue to wear it, happily. I mean come on, who doesn't love wearing red lipstick from time to time. On this particular day I was headed to a holiday party and it was absolutely freezing. Oh the pleasures of living in the North East...anyway, I wanted to add a pop of color because although I love all black ensembles, adding pops of color really made me happy.

I had been on a search for a while for an Olivia Pope/Scandal inspired coat, one that was cape-esque but one that would definitely keep me warm. Then I found this lovely piece on the Macy's website in petite! It truly makes me happy to find petite pieces in stores and online. It wansalso available in black, but I already own a black peacoat and a off white color but I was afraid it would get dirty quickly so I opted for the red.

Underneath I'm wearing all black. A simple black cardigan from Loft, black bodycon dress from Asos and black tights from Uniqlo. Uniqlo tights are seriously the bomb.com and I might have to dedicate an entire post to them because I'm such a fan. I added a gold jeweled collar/bib necklace from Jewelmint, a chunky infinity scarf from J.Crew Factory, and MAC's Ruby Woo and I was out the door.

Thanks for reading!

Winter Off-White & some more rambling...

January 13, 2015

Sometimes you just have one of those weeks. It usually happens to me at the beginning of a new year, I get super pumped and excited for the new year and am reminded of the same ol' stuff from last year. If only we could completely wipe the slate clean the minute the clock strikes midnight on the New Year's Eve. Then I remind myself...

There is something magical about the new year though, it does remind us of the possibility and opportunities in our possession to start fresh, a new beginning, a chance to become better versions of myself. That was one of my many resolutions this year. I wanted to year to be about me and to be honest, I don't care how selfish that sounds. I don't mean it in an angry way but I think I have to take a step back and look at the bigger picture. What steps do I need to take in terms of my career, my personal relationships, my health, my spiritual health (this is a big one) to be the person i desire to be. That is what my 2015 will be all about.

When I think about fresh starts and things anew that makes me think of light a bright colors, things that sparkle and shine like the shoes I'm wearing above ;) I really do love creams/off whites/blush tones. They are soft and romantic yet sophisticated and I'm guilty for having about 25-30 cream/off white/blush colored tops and sweaters in my closet. #sorrynotsorry. Whoever created the rule that you couldn't wear white after labor day lied or perhaps they didn't know how to incorporate it. I personally like to pair them with neutral pieces and I'm a huge fan of monochrome outfits. Seriously, don't be afraid to bring out those white jeans!

Also, who doesn't love shiny things? I might not be dripping in bling but I'm a sucker for metallics and extravagant earrings because WHY THE HELL NOT? :)))) These pair from Bauble Bar are my favorite, literally my favorite and they had them in other colors; I'm so tempted to buy all of them because they make me feel fancy. *queue Iggy Azalea's "Fancy"*

The peplum sweater, wool slacks and metallic heels are all Banana Republic. I'm a fan of the peplum because it accentuates the waist and adds girly flair to a traditional corporate outfit. The rose gold heels and statement earrings speak for themselves and add the perfect amount of sparkle to the outfit.
